Workshop Descriptions

Bookings for the 3 day intensive (Saturday - Monday 26, 27 & 28th May 2018) will open 22nd November 2017 at 8pm GMT. Maximum number of students is 35 students per level.  Below you will find the descriptions for the 2018 Tribal Remix intensive as well as the extra workshops. If you would like more of an overview, please check out our timetable.

EXTRA WORKSHOPS:

Friday 25th May 2018

10am - 12pm: Hilde Cannoodt: Transcultural Dance
In this dance workshop we shall learn a series of dance movements inspired by multiple dance styles from around the world. The aim is to acquire different spatial pathways as well as dynamic qualities of movement, not directly focusing on any particular style of dance, but instead exploring new ways of movement and new ways for the dancing body to express itself.

3.15pm - 5.15pm:   Alexis Southall: A Step in the Right Direction
A dance class focusing on fancy footwork and tremendous turns across the floor. Discover ways to move around the stage, while keeping hold of the isolations that keep it ‘bellydance’. No more drilling on the spot – we will take our bellydance technique and apply it to steps from Jazz, Hip Hop and Modern to create fusion vocabulary that gets you exploring the stage and interacting with the whole audience. Please bring a yoga or exercise mat for the warm up.

Level 2

10am - 12pm:   Lamia Barbara: Lamia’s signature combinations
Original combinations, an in-depth look at Belly Dance technique and some new layering drill to enhance the dance and challenge the mind! Make your isolations crisper, your snake-like movements slower and precise and prepare yourself for some challenging layering. Be ready to dance from beginning to end!

Sunday 27th May 2018

Level 1

9am - 11am:   Lamia Barbara: Indian infused belly dance: a practical introduction
Taking inspiration from her classical Indian dance studies, Lamia has designed this workshop to introduce the beautiful blending of Indian dance nuances and Belly Dance technique. After basic movement exercises, feet patterns and strengthening drills you will learn a few combinations with Lamia’s signature style.

2pm - 4pm:   Alexis Southall : Crazy Layers & Killer Combos!
After a 10 minute warm up, we are going to spend almost two hours drilling and dancing through some brand new combos. This high energy class will see us layering multiple parts of the body - chest, hips, feet, arms and hands... whatever you can think of, we're gonna try it out! And we'll throw it all together with some fun combinations at the end of class. Sweating and lots of laughter are all par for the course ;) Expect to be both physically and intellectually challenged in this workshop.

3.15 - 5.15pm:  Lamia Barbara: Slow movements and soulful arms
In this workshop we’ll focus on the technique for shoulders, arms and hands to create powerful, elegant and expressive movements. Lamia will share specific exercises designed to release tension and strengthen the upper body, improve posture, elegance and water-like movements. Understanding that every movement has it source in the center of the body, we'll go for an exploration of our belly muscles to create precise and isolated undulations and isolations.

Level 2

10am - 12pm Lamia Barbara :The art of rhythm: Indian infused drum solo
Taking inspiration from her classical Indian dance and Music studies, Lamia has created an original drum solo choreography that blends Indian dance nuances and Belly Dance technique. Basic movement exercises, feet patterns and strengthening drills are included.
